What are your career aspirations?

To be a Social Worker.

What is your dream job?

Working with a child advocacy center as a child advocate. [I chose child  advocacy] Because I wasn’t really interested in counseling or teaching.  This way I still get to work with the clients and the children and still help them get their needs met.

Describe your style?

Kind of girly, kind of laid back. I like sweat pants and sweat shirts. Easy. Usually black. Not very many colors. 

Who are your style icons?

I like how Lauren Conrad dresses, but I don’t know if I match that (laughs). She dresses really nice.

What does femininity mean to you?

 It means how you as a woman portray yourself. It’s how you are to everyone else.

Feeling beautiful can be a challenge in today’s world. What are some ways you feel beautiful?

 I get my hair done and my nails done. That makes me feel really good. I love it. When I buy clothes, that’s great. 

What advice would you give to your sixteen-year-old self?

It doesn’t matter what size your jeans are you’re going to look good in them anyway.

How do you stay confident?

 I smile

Where do you see yourself in five years and then in ten years?  

In five years, I hope I’m done with school, done with my masters. I hope I have a job living in Chicago or a big city, just having fun with life.  Ten years, maybe married, have some children, settled down, that’s about it.

Model Spotlight: Rose

Rose accompanied our model Kelly to her photo shoot. Rose was kind enough to do an interview with us regarding her thoughts on femininity. Thanks Rose!)

Meet Rose!

Relationship Status: Single

What are your career aspirations: I want to be a Veterinarian or a Zoo Archaeologist.

Describe your style: [I’m a] tee- shirt and jeans kind of person most of the time, but I like to spice it up with some colorful tops every so often.

Who is your style Icon: I don’t really have one [style icon].  [When I see something inspiring] I kind of go “ohh, I’ll steal that [idea]”

What does femininity mean to you: It means that I can be who I am. I can be a girl and express that I am a girl and do that in a way that makes me feel good, versus the way that society wants me to look.

Have you ever experienced a time when your femininity was challenged: Yes. Like I said, I like to wear tee-shirts and jeans a lot. Every once and a while people will come up to me and say “ohh, you’re looking kind of bummy today.” And it’s like “well, I’m comfy so deal with it!”

Feeling beautiful can be a challenge in today’s world. What things make you feel beautiful? I like to get my hair done and I like to get my nails done which doesn’t always happen as regularly as I would like. But just stuff that makes my body feel better.

What would you say to your younger self: Have a little more fun in high school. It’s not that serious. Go to that party.

How do you stay confident? I try to stay positive and recognize when I’ve done good things and give myself that credit verses when I’ve done stupid things.

Where do you see yourself in five years? What about ten years?  In five years I will still be in school, I know that! And in ten years I will hopefully have some kind of career and not be living out of my parent’s house.

Career Aspirations

I want to be a nurse practitioner. I’m working on getting there. I graduate on December 15th, 2012. I’m going to try to get into some type of grad school program and work my way up.

Describe Your Style

My style is sort of chic, a little bit modern, and very girly, like classic girly.

Who is your style icon?

I don’t think I really have a style icon. [I wear] what I like and what I see. I kind of put my own stuff together. I may take bits and pieces, I may look at Vogue or Elle or Cosmopolitan but it’s not one  particular person that I always [am inspired by], because style changes. I take what I like and put a twist on it.  

Describe what femininity means to you?

Being a woman. Being comfortable with yourself. Feeling liberated and feeling like your own. Being unique in your own type of way and being able to open up.

Have you experienced a time when your style and femininity were challenged?

Coming to college, transferring from [having a] teenage, young girl style to young adult style. [That battle] between “do I still dress like I’m in high school or do I dress like I’m in college now?” It was challenging trying to find out how I should look since [ I was] transferring to a different stage of life.

Feeling beautiful can be a challenge in today’s world. What are some things that make you feel beautiful?

When my hair is done. I love coming home and washing my face,  giving myself facials or having natural facial remedies. Just being comfortable in my skin just and relaxed.  [When] I’m not too dolled up, just effortlessly beautiful. 

 If you could give advice to your younger self what would you say?

Less is best. Let your inner beauty shine [by] not putting on so much makeup and jewelry to mask how you feel or how you view yourself. Most people find you more beautiful when you don’t have all that on you. I’ve heard that from lots of people, “ohh you look so much prettier without the makeup.” Just find your own personal look. Even if you want to put on a little make up, look like you’re not trying.

How do you stay confident?

Telling myself I’m beautiful. I may not be the prettiest girl in the world, there is always someone prettier than you, but as long as I’m happy with myself, then that’s good enough, that’s all you can ever really be. If you’re happy with yourself, other people become happy with you too. 

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?  10 years?

[In] five years, probably still going to school (laughs). Probably trying to be a nurse practitioner.

And in 10 years,  I am a nurse practitioner, traveling, just enjoying my life. Taking every aspect of it and enjoying my life as I can.
